A hamman in the yard (2014)

This loving couple needs a place inside the house where they can be together without the danger of being seen. Thus, a new space should be created. That gathering room is in the yard since it is a place without transit space and specific use.

The couple’s encounter should be a depiction of the difficulties they have to be together, always in secret. Therefore, the driver submitted himself to a purification process, since he is of a lower social class, till arriving at the yard. At that moment, he will be at the same level as the woman.

The result is a Hamman in the yard. It is a bathroom where they can enjoy their time together while washing their bodies. It is a magic place where romanticism is the main character. The only inconvenience is that it is the way to the terrace where the maid lives. Thus, the project proposes a design to control the view while the maid goes up the stairs. It is not necessary to hide the Hamman, but its activities. On the other hand, the driver must arrive at the yard without being seen by no one from his apartment which is located outside the main building. During this way to the Hamman, he must perform the phases of the Turkish bath.

Esta pareja de enamorados necesita un lugar dentro de la vivienda en el que poder estar juntos sin el peligro de ser vistos. Por ello, se debe crear un nuevo espacio. Como lugar de reunión de los enamorados se opta por el patio ya que es un espacio poco transitado y carece de un uso concreto.

El encuentro de la pareja debe suponer, además, un reflejo de las dificultades que existen para poder estar juntos, siempre en secreto. Por tanto, se diseña un proceso de purificación del chófer (de menor clase social) hasta acceder al patio. Momento en el que se coloca al mismo nivel de la mujer.

El resultado es un hamman en el patio. Un baño en el que poder disfrutar en pareja a la vez que el cuerpo se limpia. Es un espacio mágico en el que el romanticismo es el protagonista. El único inconveniente es que es el lugar de paso de la sirvienta, de camino a sus estancias en la terraza. Por lo que la propuesta plantea que la sirvienta pueda pasar pero sin darse cuenta de las actividades que tienen lugar en el hamman. No hay que negar la presencia del hamman pero sí el encuentro amoroso. Por otro lado, el chófer debe llegar al patio sin ser visto desde su apartamento que se encuentra en un edificio a parte de la casa principal. En este camino hasta llegar al hamman, deberá realizar las fases propias de este baño turco.
